Cannabis Activist and owner of Hemp in Avalon
In the summer of 1995 Free founded the Cannabis Hemp information club with the aim of raising public awareness about the history and many uses of Cannabis. In 1996 he was joined by Howard Marks to open what heralded as ‘Britain’s First Cannabis museum’.
In 1996 & ’97 Free was involved with instigating a ‘National Turn Yourself in Day’ at which free Cannabis was openly distributed to medical patients at Hyde Park speakers corner, before going to Marylebone police station where no arrests were made.
In 1997 Free launched the Free Medical Marijuana Foundation with the aim of distributing Cannabis to medical patients, something he continued to do until 2004 with no action taken by the police to stop him.
In 1997 he moved to Glastonbury to open a Hemp store and information center ’In Harmony with Nature’, but then renamed ’Hemp in Avalon’ in 2004.
Despite the police’s refusal to arrest him on several occasions, from 1997 to 2001 he was arrested 5 times, represented himself at Crown Court and ended up serving 3 prison sentences.
In 2005 Free stopped smoking Cannabis and is now a strong advocate for juicing the plant fresh and preferably wild.
