Frontman of the Phoneix Rose, also founder of People, Environment and Achievement Awards, & co-founder of PQ Magazine
Appearing on Sunday at 12pm in the Performance Area, at 2pm in the Press Lounge, and at 3:10pm at A Well-Fed World Global Food Sustainability Conference
Jarvis Smith, lead singer/songwriter and creator of The Phoenix Rose, is the ultimate eco entrepreneur. In search of Britain's greenest heroes he founded two of the country's leading environmental awards, the PEA and PEA Business Awards, sponsored by Lloyds TSB and the Cooperative. In 2006 he featured on Channel 4's eco documentary, Dumped, which inspired him to continue to use the media as a vehicle to spread a very important message. He has since co-founded PQ, the UK's largest ethical magazine, which goes out with the Guardian.!
Music is his ultimate passion, and Jarvis believes music can reach people at all levels in society. A great tune is just that, and there is no denying its power. His vision for the debut album, 'Sick and Tired', is to achieve what Marley, Lennon and Morrison did and move the masses! And he wanted to work with the best: with producer Native Wayne Jobson, the mixing ability of Pete Mixmaster Hammond and the guitar licks from the legendary Junior Marvin, who have collectively sold in excess of 750 million albums worldwide, this album has the credentials to move those masses - perhaps for the revolution that's so greatly needed.
Isn’t it time for music to create a movement again, just like it’s supposed to?
"The concept of energy transmission is a driving force; the belief that sharing knowledge, positivity and understanding is key in Jarvis' music."
Jarvis Smith wrote the new single, ‘Sick & Tired' , a call to people who want an end to dictatorships and manipulation, which are founding causes for the state of our planet. Strong idea, but as Jarvis believes, music is the best way to spread powerful and determined messages in a peaceful manner. ‘Sick & Tired' is a catalyst to make people consider their world, and hopefully engages them to realise their own capability in insisting change.
"Sick and Tired is one of the wickedest rock reggae songs of the past few years. Its the sound you would hear if The Police clashed with Bob Marley" - High Respect, Native Wayne Jobson (Double Grammy Winner)
"The track is a mash-up of reggae skank, rock riffs, a rap breakdown, shamanic chanting and, of course ethical lyrics from Jarvis who, incidentally, appeared in Channel 4's eco-inspired reality series dumped. it beats having a fair-trade logo stamped to your hand." Big Issue
