Juliet explores the many health issues and new research showing why dairy is linked to cancers including breast, prostate and bowel; which foods are known to fight against cancers; how natural growth hormones in milk affect us and what are the dangers of milk protein and saturated fats? Struggling to veganize your favourite baking recipes?  Melllissa Morgan (Ms. Cupcake) will take you through the world of vegan baking substitutions and you’ll learn why you don’t need animal products in any recipe. Bring your recipes along to the session and Mellissa will give you vegan-friendly substitution suggestions on the spot!

She will also give out substitution ideas for classic recipes based on suggestions made on the Ms. Cupcake Twitter and Facebook sites. Additionally, she will also touch on gluten-free treats, and how to steer clear of ‘hidden’ animal products found in many ingredients.

Marathon legend Fiona Oakes has been running on a vegan diet since she was 6, and has broken numerous world records running marathons all over the globe. Incredibly she combines marathon running with caring for hundreds of abandoned animals at her Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary and being a firefighter. 

Her 777 Quest - running 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days - will be a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD if successful!

3.00 - Dean Howell (Revolution Foods) - Vegan Athletes for Peace cycle challenge 

On Friday, 22nd May, 2015, the ‘Vegan Athletes for Peace’ Cycling Team will commence, journeying from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 9 days, covering almost 950 miles – an average of 100 miles per day.

The team includes Neil Robinson and ex-Crawley and Fleetwood Town FC footballer Dean Howell (vegan, also owner of Revolution Foods).

Their aim is to raise funds for a variety of charities linked to animal & human plight, poverty, hunger, education, & environmental issues and also to raise awareness of how we can all help to promote world peace by adopting the non-violent vegan lifestyle.

4.00 - Amanda Woodvine (Vegetarian for Life) - Getting the Balance Right: Nutrition for older Vegetarians and Vegans

According to a national survey, older people living in institutions often lack certain vitamins and minerals. Worryingly, nutrient deficiencies affect around four in ten older adults, which can lead to a vicious cycle of infection. Public health nutritionist Amanda Woodvine explains which nutrients to take special care over in and out of a care setting, easy ways to get them, and will be on hand to answer any questions specific to catering for older vegetarians or vegans.
