As many Vegfest followers will know, not only do VegfestUK events gather some of the best shopping options and food varieties all under one roof, the festivals are also home to some really dynamic and knowledgeable speakers and experts on veganism, and at this year’s Brighton event the organisers have put together altogether 4 panel discussions that promise to generate plenty of food for thought for visitors who are interested in learning more about a vegan way of life.
First up on Saturday is the panel on The Welfare Myth – With Britain about to Brexit, the government is racking up its welfare claims with the myth that somehow animals are treated better in this country. Our panellists will look in more detail at the humane myth and how that impacts on the future of British farming. Panellists include Go Vegan World and Eden Farmed Animal Sanctuary founder Sandra Higgins, social justice advocate Christopher Sebastian McJetters, and Bristol East Labour MP Kerry McCarthy.
Panel scheduled at 12pm on Saturday in the Workshops & Panels room. Hosted by Tim Barford.
Next on the agenda at 2pm is a discussion on Veganism in the Media – veganism is on the rise and with it comes more mainstream media coverage. On the one hand, this is a good thing, but on the other hand, prevalence of vegan scare stories is also on the rise. An expert lineup of panellists will look in more detail at today’s mainstream media coverage and veganism. Panellists include vegan author & columnist Chas Newkey-Burden, Plant-Based News’ head of written content Maria Chiorando, Christopher Sebastian McJetters, Sandra Higgins and Surge founder Earthling Ed.
Panel scheduled at 2pm on Saturday in the Workshops & Panels room. Hosted by Tim Barford.
Inclusivity in vegan spaces is becoming more of a focus as veganism goes mainstream and spreads globally. The next panel on Sunday at 11am looks at why the mainstream narrative is still dominated by white males, and seeks solutions to ensure that vegan spaces are more inclusive. Big welcome to the 2 panellists, namely Living Naturally co-Founder and plant alchemist Shashi K and Christopher Sebastian McJetters.
Panel scheduled at 11am on Sunday on the Stage. Hosted by Karin Ridgers and Tim Barford.
Meanwhile, a group of high-flying vegan sportspeople will discuss their success stories and how eating 100% plant-based helps with optimising their performance and recovery en route to success. Sportspeople involved are ultramarathoner Fiona Oakes, triathlete Kate Strong, vegan rugby international player Anthony Mullally, and personal trainer and Youtuber Hench Herbivore, with the panel to be hosted by triathlete Dave Sheahan.
Panel scheduled at 11am on Sunday in the Plant-Based Diets: Optimum Performance room. Hosted by Dave Sheahan.
