Joyous occasion at the second FxEctive Factor vegan talent contest at VegfestUK Brighton 2018, as 8 quality vegan musicians contested for the top prize in front of a panel of 4 celebrity judges at the Brighton Centre.
VeggieVision founder and VegfestUK presenter Karin Ridgers hosted the competition, which first made its debut back in 2016 at VegfestUK Brighton to celebrate the diversity of talents in the vegan scene. The judges – namely singer Rozalla, Marc the Vet, presenter Jasmine Harman and actor Peter Egan – had the pleasure of dissecting the various unique styles of music from a talented range of contestants with each of them having prepared hard for this popular contest.
The competition is divided into two halves, with one half of the scoring from a pre-qualifying poll run before the finals, and the other half of the scoring coming from the judges’ panel.
Up-and-coming artist Queen V had stolen a march with a healthy amount of votes in the qualifying poll with her song entry What Hell is Like. She came up trumps again in front of the discerning eyes and ears of the judges – culminating in a convincing victory by topping the table of combined scores between the 8 contestants. Congratulations to this precocious talent as her absorbing animal-themed songs captured the hearts of many in attendance. Queen V’s nominated charity Our Hen House will get a special donation too from her victory at the contest.
Special mention too to Jay Brave as his live performance of his song entry Vegan Shut Up (Stormzy Parody) was handpicked as the winner in the judges category.
Special thanks too to the other 6 contestants who have promoted their nominations and song entries widely before the contest – big thanks to Barbara Helen, Casey Tufnell, Mobius Loop, Jenny Mahler and Ian Haywood who have put forward their songs and kept on producing music whilst promoting the core ethics of veganism through their work.
